Exploring an Bizarre Steam Demo: Guiding a Poop with the Goal to Reach the Toilet
Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered numerous engaging independent titles. But, one is particularly notable for its offbeat concept. Titled Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer includes a hero that is actually a piece of poop trying to travel to a commode. As a fun fact, "Unko" translates to "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: you only need a jump control. In 150 stages, encounter boss fights and access a market to buy outfits for your poop character.
Execute your actions carefully, as a error forces beginning again. Bounce on air pockets to launch your character to new heights, traverse crumbling platforms, and touch buttons to unlock new areas. Earn currency to purchase challenging stages in which the action gets crazy.
Graphically, the demo shows off vibrant stages and an amazing background music. Its minimalist art featuring moving geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of beloved games like Earthbound.
While it's hard to think of other games where you control a dung character, interactive entertainment often included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can make throwables from protagonist droppings. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as plant food. Naturally, fecal references is present extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Regardless of its silly idea, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, including being named best at Bandai Namco's indie contest in 2023. The demo is accessible now on Steam, with the full game set to arrive on Steam in the fall.
